1.
Pure and holy Shimmering waves calling A gentle sweep Falls asleep Your presence feels like calm nights No more I weep this misery Pour the water Cast a stone Lift my curse From my bone Pure and holy Shimmering waves calling Your presence feels like calm nights No more I weep this misery I felt the earth move Sweet air cherishes
2.
Skin Graft 05:47
These splinters they crack you I can witness the bleedings you have Numb, framed and frightened Meltdown and silenced Wear my skin Wear it as your armor Crown me in I'm giving in forever Naked and exposed Your flesh is an enchantment Every words you wish to speak Is blunt with no edge and weak Time excels I shroud you in my wings I'll reach out your hand and wash out the ash Nothing will hurt you I'm your sacrifice
3.
Play in your games, your chambers Whispered my feelings in my own skin Seek through the sound reflections I'm lost in the mazes of you Your echo it screech through the walls You're never here We're not meant to be This vividly dreams Fragile as glass I call by your name in silence You walked away right through my skin The pendulum swing Mesmer Watched your presence from a stained mirror cell Your skin it begs me to fall
4.
Last night I dreamt That somebody loved me No hope, no harm Just another false alarm Last night I felt Real arms around me No hope, no harm Just another false alarm So, tell me how long Before the last one? And tell me how long Before the right one? The story is old (I Know) But it goes on The story is old (I Know) But it goes on Oh, goes on And on Oh, goes on And on

about

Originally released back in July through Disaster Records and Greedy Dust, Sunlotus’ smoldering EP, Fever, breathes new life again on digital and cassette through Gezellig Records.

This post-rock-informed take on shoegaze from the heart of Indonesia thunders and roars like a mutated conglomeration of MONO and My Bloody Valentine. With tectonic drones, simmering distortion and glacial chugging rhythms, you’ll be hard pressed to find a more pulverizing and elemental rock sound than this.

The band is the dream project of leader/guitarist/singer Made Dharma, and was created to satisfy his need for intense volume that was lacking in the local noise and hardcore scenes. With DF Ahmad alongside him on guitar, and Wiwit Nugroho on drums, the band plays a roaring and persistent wall of guitars that rattles your bones and turns the air into a thick jelly. Yet, Sunlotus’ most impressive feat thus far is that they made this monstrous in-the-red volume and distortion not only extremely accessible, but also deeply moving, too.

From cascading grand epics like “Glass-like Dreams,” to their raw, relentlessly emotional interpretation of The Smiths’ “Last Night I Dreamt that Somebody Loved Me,” the band channels everything from existential ennui, to the catharsis of pent up pandemic trauma and even the oppressive heat of their home in Java into something stunning and hopeful. Sympathetic melodies and soulful vocals drenched in thick reverb abound on this release, and they tug tightly at your heart while cyclones of overdriven guitars howl in the background. This powerful EP is unquestionably heavy in both sound and content.

Fever is a record for our shaken times. Fans of Spiritualized, Explosions in the Sky and Azusa Plane need to know this music and know it well.
